Boats, gigs, and family

Well, summer seems to have arrived and we've been having a very busy time of things.

So, what have we got lately...

Parents - Dad seems to be recovering well since his latest time in the operating theatre. A review and cystoscopy, and now waiting for the results. Maybe there'll be answers but more likely there won't be any answers yet. Time will tell all.

Kids - Eleanor is doing really well. The new job has been brilliant for her. She's out everywhere and actually having a great life. Long may it continue. Noah too is doing well. He's just back from four days in London with his friends.

Some very interesting ideas. contemplating the death of famine, plague, and war. And about the future of the Internet, big business, and data analytics. Perhaps painting too bleak a picture and too soon in the coming. But some very good ideas around Humanism, happiness, and God.

John Braine - Room at the Top

A superb novel. Excellent story about social class during the 1950's. Will have to try t'The L shaped Room' next! another 'angry young men' novel.

Room at the Top is a novel by John Braine, first published in the United Kingdom by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1957, about the rise of an ambitious young man of humble origin, and the socio-economic struggles undergone in realising his social ambitions in post-war Britain. A film adaptation was made in 1959, followed in 2012 by a TV film. John Minton's cover art from the first edition was restored and used on the new edition by Valancourt Books in 2013.
